Thereafter, the undercurrent no longer flowed into the basement, where it was almost completely ineffective. On the contrary, the air was directed where it was really needed in order to remove the water vapour from the paper sheet as efficiently as possible. The optimum blowpipe position in the cylinder pockets can be seen in figure 3. Ever since the air was used in a more targeted way, the customer has also been able to produce heavier grades at 1,000 m/min. The productivity increase amounts to a very respectable 17%, especially when considering the fairly low installation costs. In summary, this was a long term optimisation which brought the customer millions of Euros of additional turnover.
